May 27, 2010

Hi everyone,
I always need time to digest the information from the class before I can respond. I often feel overwhelmed at the end of class and know I need time to figure it out. I do admit I am behind the times but know I need to get going and catch up. I am realizing there are many different applications that do the same things. I did some exploring on our division website and found lots of resources available for teachers at all levels. I really feel that we need to do more networking and sharing within our schools and divisions to help each other learn these applications and then apply them to our situation.
I am planning on reviewing some of these applications and introducing them to our student services team in the fall. I think trying to introduce something new at this time of year will cause too much stress. I hope to put together some podcasts or maybe even some video casts related to some student services tasks that "rookie" resource teachers might like to have and review when needed. I would like to share Diigo with them and try to support each other with finding current research and interventions. Although information overload is always a concern.
Personally, I see how technology solves some of the engagement concerns for some kids. I am also very impressed with our classmates and what they are doing in their classrooms. I am sure it is happening in our classrooms as well, I just need to get out of my office and see it in action.
That is all for now. I am going to try and download the podcasting applications before my next night class.

  1. It is almost impossible to get ahead of the times with ICT so you just have to jump in the flow and be prepared to be continually learning. I guess that is the new way of the world anyway.

The most important thing is to keep using the digital tools for a practical purpose once you have learned them. It is always great to get your own network of folks set up to try different things with.

  2. It is a lot of information to digest, that is for sure. After June 21 I don't have anymore kids so I plan to spend time then to find ways to incorporate some of these tools into lessons for all of my classes. I am really enjoying it though.
